Gluteal Tendinopathy, greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS), trochanteric Bursitis, hip bursitis…
Lateral hip pain?
It could be gluteal tendinopathy, commonly also referred to as GTPS or trochanteric bursitis.
Tenderness/pain to palpation overlying the greater trochanter? Pain with resisted abduction? Pain with single leg stance?
Physiotherapy and rehabilitation is key, everything else supplements this.
Lifestyle and activity modifications are integral to this:
Avoid sitting with cross-legs, sit less, use high-chairs or seat wedge
Place a pillow between your legs in bed/sleeping
Don’t overdo it, if it hurts, stop doing it
If your symptoms/pain aren’t improving, consider making an appointment with Dr Collins to discuss further investigations and/or treatments to improve your quality of life.
Treatment options include:
Physiotherapy
Injection therapy - PRP, steroid
Surgery - in rare circumstances recalcitrant to the above treatment surgery can be beneficial, be it a gluteal tendon repair &/or bursectomy/decompression
